Heartbreaking individual stories continue to arrive from the quake scene  in nepal. Reuters have filed this from a village in the Gorkha valley area, Jharibar.
Her husband away in India, Sunthalia worked alone for hours in the rubble of her house perched on a ridge near the epicentre of Nepal’s earthquake to pull out the bodies of her 10-year-old daughter and a son aged eight. Another son of four miraculously survived.
Three other houses in their remote settlement, an hour’s walk up the lush green Gorkha valley, had collapsed. It was deathly quiet after Saturday’s quake, she recalls.
“I could see my son’s fingers fluttering through the pile of stones. That’s how I could see him and save him,” Sunthalia said, sitting listlessly on the ground, her son by her side.
The stench of dead cattle still in the rubble of her home is overpowering. There is little government help so far; the only thing families such as hers have been given is a thin tarpaulin sheet to lie under.
Four days after the country’s most powerful quake in 81 years, authorities are struggling to determine the extent of the disaster in the Gorkha region and neighbouring Lamjung where the epicentre lay, let alone provide succour.

Labyrinths
As recommended by Rory Finbar, robjamherero, and Matt Bluemink
Translated from Spanish to English and published in 1962, Labyrinths was the most popular suggestion among our readers. Written mainly during the second world war, the collection contains some of Borges’s most celebrated work, including The Library of Babel, the story of an unimaginably vast library that contains every possible variation of a 410-page book. The story would go on to inspire many other writers, including Umberto Eco and Terry Pratchett, to use a variation of the concept in their writings.

Winesburg, Ohio.jpg

Winesburg, Ohio
Sherwood Anderson, 1919
As recommended by Yosserianpetersalmon and JumbleBuns
Known as a “short-story cycle” because of the way in which its stories are all united by location but do not form a cohesive novel, Winesburg, Ohio is considered to be one of the earliest examples of modernist literature. The characters in the collection are all struggling to overcome the loneliness that is a feature of living in the eponymous town. Anderson said he wrote the first of the stories while naked, and that he finished each of the pieces in one sitting. It is “brilliant, discursive and moving,” says petersalmon, who claims to be reading it “for about the 10th time”.

One proud daddy! Chris Brown shared two adorable snaps of his baby daughter Royalty for the first time on the evening of Thursday, April 17 -- declaring his super-cute little tot his "twin."
News of Brown's daughter's existence only surfaced in March of this year when it emerged that model Nia Guzman had conceived a daughter with the "Fine China" singer, who was then 9 months old (a revelation that sent the rapper's then-girlfriend Karreuche Tran packing).
And although reports have followed alleging Brown and Guzman are involved in heated negotiations over child support issues (TMZ reports Brown is asking Houston-based Guzman to move to L.A. so he can be nearer to his daughter), it appears legalities are not getting in the way of the singer bonding with his little girl.
